If everyone peacefully gets along then the concept of rights is moot. Rights are only worth discussing because disputes do in fact exist, or, rather, because the actions of one party if unchecked may be objectionable to another. The question is, why isn't there constant fighting and destruction everywhere and always in the Hobbesian sense? It's not because of metaphysics.

As a Brit I was a little disappointed to discover in the last section of this post that your colleague's _name_ was Earl. The poem compensated me though.
