Is the saying "to my friends - anything, to everybody else - the law" describes the policy of the decent man? What if we substitute "the law" by "whatever egregious abuse of the law I can pull off"? Still a decent man? I mean, the bar for a decent man seems to be set pretty low here - anybody who is not actively raving psychopath in the midst of a psychotic crisis would pass it. I'm sure even most heinous villains may have some friends or people they treated with special regard. I am not inclined to give them a pass on that and equate them with non-villains just because they are not completely feral.
